DOMAINE PHILIPPE COLIN CHASSAGNE - MONTRACHET 1ER LES CHAUMEES
The Les Chaumées vineyard is situated at the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet, bordering SaintAubin. It is the highest positioned vineyard directly above the premier cru sites of Les Vergers and Les Chenevottes. Philippe’s parcel is on the lower section of the sloping, stony vineyards which receive northeast exposure. Shallow soils have a higher limestone content than clay, imparting a bracing minerality. The average age of the vines is approximately 30 years, as some are being replanted. However, the largest portion is 50 years old. The vineyards are trained in the Single Guyot method and farmed sustainably, following la lutte raisonnée (the practice of using less chemicals, less often, less aggressively than conventional growers), with rigorous plowing and minimal use of chemical sprays.

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées unfurls in the glass with notes of freshly baked bread, crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and open-knit, with a tender, charming profile and a vibrant finish. This hails from the steepest sloping site in Colin's domaine.
