DOMAINE RENE LEQUIN-COLIN SANTENAY "VIEILLES VIGNES" ROUGE
A blend of three plots in Santenay, this old-vines pinot noir over-delivers in every way. To the east of the commune is “Champs Claude” with vines 70+years old; closer to Chassagne is “Les Hates” with vines 50-55 years old; and “Clos Genet” where the vines are 40-45 years old. François believes that “Les Hates” brings structure, and the other two sites bring finesse and fruitiness. The wine is fermented by native yeasts in neutral barrique, with 20% new barrels. Elevage continues for a 12-month period under the same barrel program, followed by an additional 3 months in stainless steel before bottling.

Its tannic structure, though tight, reveals the terribly earthy character of Santenay. Pinot speaks the truth with that Burgundian accent that makes it inimitable.
