MARK HAISMA BOGAN GOES WALKABOUT
Mark Haisma - ”What? This is not A Bogan in Bogandy! This is an introduction to what is coming in 2022. I must have had a premonition because I did make some VdF Shiraz from the Rhône Valley in 2021. I wasn’t sure what I would do with it so it just was there, tucked up in its barrels, in the corner of my mind. We fast forward to vintage 2022, where we picked our red vineyards in Mancey together, the Shiraz and Gamay and then co-fermented, the outcome has been absolutely spectacular. Is this a style and blend that continues? I am not sure. In true Bogan style, anything goes. I do not want to be constrained by rules with the Bogan label.
Shiraz and Pinot Noir/Gamay!!! Now this is no ordinary blend of wine, it’s not seen often. The 2021 Walkabout ratios are mostly Pinot Noir and Gamay 75% and Shiraz 25%. In 2022 the ratios will be reversed.
A brilliant wine with loads of character and spice but also a nice chewy feel from the gamay. This is a game-changer for me. We will be talking about it a lot more down the years to come.”
